Swing Dancing and…Babywearing?

My Little Swing Baby

For anyone who knows me you know how much I love swing dancing. It’s been a hobby of mine since I was sixteen when my mom took me to my first class and I chastised my partner, a poor fellow from high school, for not doing the exact order of moves the instructor had demonstrated. Obviously I had a lot to learn about following. Since then I’ve been able to use my dancing in an array of forums, from teaching young kids at summer camp, to my farewell performance at Miss Covina, to the occasional wedding dance floor. It’s always been fun and enjoyable…and not a bad way to work out either!

So when I got a call from my girlfriend and fellow swing dancing momma about a possible performance at Camp Hollywood, I was on board. Nevermind that it was a week away or that there would be no rehearsals…it didn’t matter because I was excited! Now the catch here is that this would be about 12 couples whom have all recently joined the ranks of parents. We would be wearing our babies/toddlers…while dancing…in front of everyone. Not sure I could do this but I was willing to try.

So here is the performance (from my hubby’s camera, he doesn’t dance). Hope you all enjoy it as much as we enjoyed performing it.

kate, sounds like our beginning experiences were similar. in addition to completely relating to your story, one (very good friend of mine today) gently chastised me back then, saying (in the nicest way possible) “you have a lot of interesting ideas. maybe you should try leading.” what he wanted to say, i’m sure, was more along the lines of “stop showing off and follow me!”

This brought a smile to my face, Kate. Thanks for sharing!
