There is nothing more freeing than when your kid learns to put on his own shoes (except for when he is finally potty trained, but that’s a post for another time!). Little Man has been on a NO SHOES STRIKE. He loves to be barefoot and takes his shoes off any chance he gets. Since he couldn’t put them back on himself it fell on mommy to get them back on. I saw myself getting more and more angry every time I saw his shoes on the car floor right as we arrived at our destination. I asked him to keep them on, I told him he had to ask permission first, I even threatened consequences…nothing was deterring this man.
In an effort to help him be more independent, as well as keep my sanity, I decided to find shoes this boy would not only want to keep on but also be able to put back on himself. We headed to Payless and Little Man immediately was drawn to the Disney Planes shoes. He loves planes and even though he hasn’t seen the movie yet (it’s his reward for petty training) he has read the book and knows all the characters. The best part was they were super easy for him to put on and off with one simple strap of Velcro.
My husband spent the next two days working with Little Man on the proper way to put on and take off these new shoes. Little Man took to it like a fish to water and hasn’t looked back. Now when he takes his shoes off in the car I just tell him to put them back on before he can get out. It’s AWESOME!
Disney not only has great Planes shoes for back to school but also backpacks and lots of other fun character gear. I am so tempted to go back and get these shoes as well.
Now when he can tie his own shoes I know Dada will be eyeing these new Marvel ones from Journey’s.
